Ingredients

  •  ¼ cup honey (preferably raw and unpasteurized)
  •  1–2 inch fresh turmeric root or 1–2 teaspoons ground turmeric
  •  Pinch of freshly ground black pepper

Method

  1. If using fresh turmeric, peel the thin outer skin with a spoon and finely grate the turmeric. If using ground turmeric, simply measure the required amount.
  2. Add the turmeric to the honey along with a pinch of black pepper.
  3. Stir until everything is fully combined and the mixture is smooth.
  4. Transfer the paste to a clean airtight glass jar.
  5. Refrigerate if using fresh turmeric. Ground turmeric versions can be stored in a cool, dry place.

Notes

  • Fresh turmeric gives a brighter flavor, while ground turmeric is a convenient alternative.
  • A small pinch of black pepper complements the turmeric without overpowering the taste.
  •  Always use a clean, dry spoon when serving to help keep the paste fresh.
  • For a quick wellness drink, stir 1 tablespoon of the paste into 2 tablespoons water and 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice or apple cider vinegar.
  • Store fresh turmeric paste in the refrigerator for 1–3 weeks. Ground turmeric paste lasts longer when kept in an airtight container.
