Ingredients

  • 2½ cups water
  • 3 teaspoons whole cloves
  • 1 black tea bag
  • 1 tablespoon honey or sweetener of choice
  • 1 slice lemon optional

Method

  1. Bring the water to a boil in a pot on the stove.
  2. Add the cloves and tea bag to a teapot or heatproof container. Carefully pour the boiling water over them and let steep for 5 to 10 minutes, depending on your preferred strength.
  3. Pour into a cup, sweeten with honey to taste, and add a lemon slice if desired.

Notes

  • If you don't have honey on hand, white or brown sugar makes a fine substitute.
  • For a caffeine-free version, swap the black tea bag for rooibos or hibiscus tea.
  • This tea also works well served cold over ice on a warm day.
